CHARACTERIZATION AND GROUPING OF THE
COLOMBIA REGIONS TO DEVELOP OF CLUSTERS:
AN APPLICATION OF PICHAT ALGORITHM

ABSTRACT
The present paper has main aim to establish of similarity relationship between each
Colombia Regions to development of Clusters. The methodology used is based in Pichat
Algorithm, which are be able to establish closer sub-relations of each of characteristic
analysed. Results have shown three different structures of groups of regions based with
(GRDP) characteristics: Divergent Regions, Big Group and Convergent Regions. We
have been concluded that theses grouping could help in policy-makers to development
fostering regional cooperation, entrepreneurship, and productivity growth. Likewise,
These results can be also to treat with a second technic to establish direct relationship
between each of regions studied.

1. INTRODUCTION
In the last decades economic liberalization and globalization have been simplified of the
barrier trades causing economics are more dependent on each other and a higher degree of
uncertainty. Based on the above, the nation have been considering about competitiveness and
promoting an economic policy as key factor to boost regional development into global
economic context. Hence, competitiveness is subject to ability to develop competitive
advantage, which will be a key success factor to regional and business development.
Competitive advantage could be developed from differentiation, which is advisable to build
from cooperation between governments, companies and academics boosting entrepreneurship
to develop clusters.
Colombia as emerging economic has been shown a sustained economy growth in last
years highlighting productive regions as Bogotá D.C., Cundinamarca, Barranquilla,
Bucaramanga, Medellin and Cali. However, Colombia still needs in areas of improvement in
