University of Trieste, Trieste sbaizero@units.it Abstract Nowadays, renovation of historic buildings for different uses is a matter of fact. House comfort and energy saving have to be the principal aims of the design. It could be more complicated when renovation projects regard spaces for music, able to receive students and teachers for different kinds of lessons and exercising. Nevertheless, high density of modern cities implies several compatibility problems of these kinds of structures with contiguous buildings. This paper presents a study of an historic building located in the centre of a large Italian city, where a recording studio and different study rooms for music of different capacity will be placed. It borders on two higher blocks of flats and a rest home is on the other side of the narrow street. Among other difficulties, the main challenge was to reach high energetic performances, minimum maintenance and high acoustic comfort and insulation. Keywords: energetic renovation, acoustic insulation, recording studio design. 1 Collocation within the urban area The historic building (figure 1) is placed in the center of a big Italian city and borders on two higher blocks of flats with several floors. On the other side of the street there is a rest home and other dwellings. The map of the site is shown in figure 2.
