Clinical findings include hemiparesis or hemiplegia, seizures and/or mental retardation. The present report discusses the very unusual case of a late-diagnosed Dyke– Davidoff–Masson syndrome in a 75-year-old body donor who had suffered a left-sided stroke associated with the internal carotid artery in the course of tonsillitis at the age of 5. & 2008 Elsevier GmbH. Introduction The Dyke–Davidoff–Masson syndrome was first described in 1933 as cerebral hemiatrophy with ipsilateral hypertrophy of the skull and sinuses in a series of nine patients with hemiplegia and changes on plain skull X-ray (Dyke et al., 1933). It typically occurs after cerebral injury due to trauma, ischemia or infection in utero or early childhood. It is clinically characterised by seizures, facial asymmetry, contralateral hemiparesis or hemiple- gia. Some cases are also characterized by mental and/or motor retardation (Atalar et al., 2007). Calvarial hypertrophy and hyperpneumatisation seem to occur more frequently in those patients with intrauterine or perinatal damage (Atalar et al., 2007). Case report The present report discusses the case of a 75-year-old female body donor primarily examined during our student dissection course after standard embalming techniques. After opening the skull an atrophy of the left cerebral hemisphere was ARTICLE IN PRESS www.elsevier.de/aanat 0940-9602/$ - see front matter & 2008 Elsevier GmbH.
