Keywords: Recycled nitrile glove (NBRr), ENR 50, curing characteristics, swelling test.
Abstract: The effects on properties of recycle nitrile glove (NBRr) filled Epoxidised Natural
Rubber (ENR 50) was studied. Compound was prepared by two roll mill at five different
compositions of NBRr (5, 15, 25, 35 and 50 phr). Two different size ranges of NBRr particles i.e.,
300µm-700µm (fine) and 3cm-5cm (coarse) were used. The properties of cure characteristics (cure
time, scorch time, minimum torque, and maximum torque) and swelling test were determined.
Results indicated that the incorporation of fine size NBRr loading on ENR 50 provides better
improvement both on cure characteristics and swelling behaviour mainly at 15 phr of NBRr
compared to the coarser size NBRr particles.
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Waste from rubber production known to have a low percentage by weight in urban waste
streams in both industrialized and less-industrialized area. The part of the rubber waste is usually
collected separately, directly from generators such as petrol station, garages and junkyards, and it
seen to have a limited number of items and materials. The data concerning about the specific
composition of rubber waste is limited and the production data of for the rubber product had gave
an idea of product dominate. Recycling is the process of reduction, reuse, recyclable, recovery and
reclaim the materials. The process is such a way that will save the nature and hence added the value
of the product [1].
Nitrile glove is one of the rubber waste product made from synthetic rubber. It contains no
latex proteins and suitable to be used by the people allergic to latex. Besides, nitrile glove offered
excellent resistance to wear and tears and others chemicals since acrylonitrile provides permeation
resistance characteristics. The usage of the nitrile glove in various fields like pharmaceutical,
medical, industrial, laboratory and food preparation in everyday live, will increase the amount of
the waste to the world respectively [2].
The waste generated in a high volume demands a good management system and effective
support of infrastructure. Since there was a limited number of landfill to handle the increasing
volume of the waste, therefore it should be recovered in order to be use for the other purpose. Waste
of nitrile glove shows a significant value and has high potential to recycle or reuse. The limitation
of our natural resources nowadays has created serious critical problems to manufacturing industry
