Reflexões sobre as definições da palavra “fandango”: o contexto caiçara em foco Joni Márcio Dorneles Fontella (PG UNIOESTE) Rosemary Irene Castañeda Zanette (UNIOESTE) RESUMO: “Fandango” é uma palavra que, segundo os dicionários gerais da língua portuguesa, é proveniente da Espanha. Entretanto, entre os pesquisadores do tema no Brasil, não há um consenso sobre a sua origem. Sabe-se, porém, que no século XVIII, relatos de viajantes e naturalistas já registravam sua existência na região Sul. Hoje, no Dicionário gaúcho: termos, expressões, adágios, ditados e outras barbaridades (2005), esta palavra é definida como "baile popular". Contudo, no litoral do Paraná e de São Paulo, entre o povo caiçara, “fandango” significa muito mais que um simples baile, é um modo de vida, pois, desenvolveu-se nas relações sociais cotidianas, seja nos mutirões, ou qualquer outra ocasião do dia a dia. É a principal forma de expressão cultural desse povo. Sendo assim, este trabalho tem por objetivo a análise das definições dessa palavra registradas em dois dicionários de Língua Portuguesa, um geral e um regional. Então, a partir dos traços conceituais neles encontrados, e valendo-se do contexto histórico registrado nos livros Museu Vivo do Fandango (2006) e Cultura Caiçara: resgate de um povo (2005), o objetivo final é desenvolver uma definição que consiga exprimir seu significado para as mencionadas comunidades. Para isto, refletiremos sobre o conceito de definição (BIDERMAN, 2001, 2001b; MEDINA GUERRA, 2003). A noção de Regionalismo (ISQUERDO, 2006; BIDERMAN, 2001c) também será discutida para fundamentar nossa posição em relação ao “fandango caiçara”. Reflexitons about the definitions of the word “fandango”: The Caiçara context in focus ABSTRACT: According to dictionaries of General Portuguese Language, “fandango” is a Spanish word originally. Nevertheless, the researchers who study this theme in Brazil are not consensual about its origin. It is known, however, that back in the nineteenth century, some travelers and naturalists’ reports already described its existence in the Southern region of Brazil. Nowadays, in one hand, the Dicionário gaúcho: termos, expressões, adágios, ditados e outras barbaridades (2005), defines this word as a “popular ball”. On the other hand, however, at the coast of Paraná and São Paulo states, among the caiçara people, “fandango” signifies much more than a simple ball, it is a way of living, because, it was developed in their everyday social relations, be at the taskforce, or any other opportunity during the day. It is their main way of cultural expression. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze the definitions to this word found in two Portuguese dictionaries, a general and a regional one. Then, from the conceptual traits found on them, and taking into account the historical context registered in the books Museu Vivo do Fandango (2006) e Cultura Caiçara: resgate de um povo (2005), the chief purpose of this work is to develop a definition which can express the meaning of “fandango” to the mentioned communities. In order to reach this goal, we will reflect about the concept of definition (BIDERMAN, 2001, 2001b; MEDINA GUERRA, 2003). The Regionalism notion (ISQUERDO, 2006; BIDERMAN, 2001c), will also be discussed to justify our position on “fandango caiçara”. KEYWORDS: Fandango; Caiçara; Lexicography; Dictionary.
