Tradición judía y actualidad social en cuatro artículos publicados en El Ri ś ón de Salónica Sandra SCHLUMPF (Universität Basel, Suiza) RESUMEN Las transformaciones culturales de las comunidades sefardíes de Oriente en las primeras décadas del siglo XX hallaron su reflejo más inmediato en el género periodístico, por lo cual en este artículo nos proponemos analizar una selección de textos publicados en los años 1928 y 1938 con motivo de diferentes festividades ju- días en El Riś ón, periódico humorístico-satírico de Salónica. Intentaremos detectar de qué manera se manifiestan las nuevas ideas y los problemas sociopolíticos de la época para poder analizar, después, los posibles objetivos que llevaron a los autores a publicar sus artículos. Veremos que especialmente la ocasión de las fiestas se presta para llamar la atención del público lector, lo que permitirá, en un segundo paso, tra- tar temas de diferente índole, no necesariamente en directa conexión con las festi- vidades. ABSTRACT Journalism was the area that most immediately reflected the cultural transformations of the Eastern Sephardic communities in the first decades of the twentieth century. Hence, in this study we are going to look at a variety of texts dating from the years 1928 and 1938. All of them deal with different Jewish festivities and were published in El Riś ón, a satirical newspaper of Salonika. We intend to find out how new ideas and socio-political problems were taken up, in order to determine the underlying goals that had led authors to publish the article in the first place. Further, we will point out that festivities were an especially good occasion to draw the attention of the public readership. Consequently, authors often seized the opportunity to address other topics not directly linked with the celebrations. Keywords: Judeo-Spanish, satirical press, Salonika, discourse analysis, El Riś ón.
