Although mostly caused by bacteria, there are a growing number of viruses that include parvovirus, hepatitis virus, and HIV. Here we report a case of ReA with erythema nodosum that was triggered by parvovirus B19. Bu olgu sunumunda, parvovirüs B19 enfeksiyonu sonrasında eritema nodozum ile prezente olan bir reaktif artrit vakasını bildirmeyi amaçladık Anahtar Kelimeler: Reaktif artrit, human parvovirüs B19, eritema nodozum Address for Correspondence / Yazışma Adresi: Emre Adıgüzel, MD, E-mail: eadiguzel@gata.edu.tr Received/Geliş Tarihi: November/Kasım 2013 Accepted/Kabul Tarihi: April/Nisan 2014 ©Copyright 2015 by Turkish Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation - Available online at www.ftrdergisi.com ©Telif Hakkı 2015 Türkiye Fiziksel Tıp ve Rehabilitasyon Derneği - Makale metnine www.ftrdergisi.com web sayfasından ulaşılabilir. Turk J Phys Med Rehab 2015;61:276-9. 276 Introduction Reactive arthritis (ReA), classiied as a member of the spon- dyloarthritis family, is a rheumatologic disease characterized by non-purulent arthritis, which occurs 1–4 weeks after gastrointes- tinal or genitourinary infections. There are no diagnostic criteria validated by case-controlled prospective studies or universally accepted by scientiic communities. An expanding list of patho- gens exists, including bacteria, virus, protozoa, etc. Although mostly caused by bacteria, there are a growing number of vi- ruses, which include parvovirus, hepatitis virus, and HIV. Viral ar- thritis with HIV has also been reported previously (1). Parvovirus B19-associated ReA is an uncommon disease entity. Parvovirus B19 mostly causes anemia, erythema infectiosum (ifth disease), and hydrops fetalis in pregnant women. It is also known to cause acute and chronic arthralgia/arthritis. Here we report a case of ReA with erythema nodosum that was triggered by parvovirus B19. The aim of this report is to bring clinicians’ attention to parvovirus-associated ReA.
