Moro, 00185 Rome, Italy Received 3 May 1996; accepted 9 September 1996 We report the sequence of a 8061 bp fragment of Saccharomyces cerevisiae chromosome VII. Five open reading frames (ORFs) of at least 100 amino acids were identified. Three show similarities to the amino-acid sequence of known gene products. ORF G9374 corresponds to the gene coding for the yTAF II 145 protein: a TBP-associated factor whose amino-acid sequence was previously reported (Reese et al., 1994). The remaining ORF does not display similarities to known sequences. The complete nucleotide sequence was submitted to the EMBL database (Accession Number X84098). ( 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.) INTRODUCTION We have determined the complete nucleotide sequence of an 8 kb segment of the right arm of chromosome VII as part of the Commission of the European Union project to sequence the genome from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The DNA frag- ment was part of the cosmid clone EGH101 provided by H. Tettelin (UC1, Belgium). This frag- ment contains four open reading frames (ORFs) of unknown function and a gene coding for the TBP- associated factor yTAF II 145 (Reese et al., 1994). MATERIALS AND METHODS Strains and plasmids The Escherichia coli strain JM109 (Yannisch- Perron et al., 1989) was used to purify and amplify the plasmids. The sequenced DNA segment is part of the yeast insert from cosmid pEGH101. This cosmid was *Correspondence to: Maurizio Ruzzi.
