individuals and institutions, ultimate exchange and usage of the concepts, and almost no juridical or scientific boundaries to access. DOAJ is one of the most promising products of the open access movement. The idea of creating a exhaustive Directory of Open Access Journals to support the research and education globally was discussed firstly at the First Nordic Conference on Scholarly Communication in Lund/Copenhagen. The Directory is introduced, keep and funded by Lund University Libraries Head Office. It also provides single window open access to scholarly journals and articles in different disciplines. In 2002, DOAJ was contributing access to only 33 periodicals, but now it aids to 3 access more than 9930 journals from 121 countries, DOAJ . India occupies a 5th position in terms of number of open access journals being contributed to DOAJ. There are so many studies have been reported earlier on various other subjects related to 4-13 DOAJ . The present study is undertaken with an objective to assess the language-wise country wise and year wise contribution. The study is confined to the DOAJ only. The data relevant to the study was accessed from the directory. The data are tabulated and analyzed to get better findings. Percentage calculations have been adopted for the interpretation of data. The DOAJ provides Open Access to 86 journals in the subject of Physics. Language-wise Distribution RESULTS & DISCUSSIONS q INTRODUCTION By the advent of internet our earth has reduced and has attained the form of a global village. Open access is the enormous achievement of the internet. It has not only enhanced, but also reformed the information accessible. It has ameliorated all the regions of society, including researchers, scholars and institutions. It has established to be more fruitful for the patrons, by affording more visibility and utilization. It has also provided a convincing contribution towards linking up the void between information rich and poor societies. Open access journals are not only vibrant sources of information, but also service to prohibit the duplication of work. These provide universal access to the original research findings and concepts. Open access journals can be freely available to the community through the internet. The Directory defines open access journals as 'Journals that use a funding model that does not charge readers or their institutions for 1 access' DOAJ . Budapest Open Access Initiative definition characterizes the open access literature as 'free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining 2 access to the internet itself . Benefits of Open Access are increased perceptibility of the contributors, averts facsimilation of research work, instant accessibility, no financial obstruction on 92 The open access has revolutionized the information approachability and application. It is advantageous to the researcher community by providing immediate visibility to the authors and usage of their results. It also has an application access to information everywhere without any charges. Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is the major contributor to the open access movement. It expedites access to more than 9930 journals in various disciplines including 86 journals in the subject of Physics. Physics is an important subject related to natural science. Present article takes account of year wise contribution of various countries, in discrete languages to the DOAJ in the subject of Physics. KeyTerms: DOAJ, Open Access, Physics, Natural Science.
