Revista Angelus Novus – nº 5 – junho de 2013 25 O GOVERNO-GERAL NAS VERTENTES DA HISTORIOGRAFIA BRASILEIRA Guilherme Amorim Carvalho Doutorando na Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP) Resumo: Com base nos caminhos que a historiografia brasileira percorreu para explicar o papel do governo-geral e de seus representantes, busca-se refletir acerca das diferentes estra- tégias interpretativas que, em alguns casos, acabaram por se transformar em tradição explicativa. Dessa maneira, propomos a possibilidade de diálogo entre elas, particular- mente entre as concepções do “Antigo Sistema Colonial”, proposto por Fernando No- vais em sua famosa tese, e da “Teoria Corporativa do Antigo Regime”. Ambas as con- cepções acerca das relações entre Coroa portuguesa a e América portuguesa vêm sendo retomadas por historiadores, no intuito de conferir mais profundidade às interpretações mais tradicionais acerca da administração no Império português e suas conquistas. Palavras-chave: Governo-geral do Brasil; Historiografia; Novas abordagens Abstract: Based on the paths covered by the Brazilian a historiography to explain the role of the general government and its representatives, we aim to reflect about the different inter- pretative strategies, which in some cases had become an explanatory tradition. In this way, we propose a dialogue possibility between them, particularly between the concep- tions of “Ancient Colonial System”, proposed by Fernando Novais in his famous thesis, and the “Corporate Theory of the Old Regime government”. Historians are revisiting these both conceptions about the relations between the Portuguese Crown and the Por- tuguese America in order to deepen the traditional interpretations about the administra- tion in the Portuguese Empire and its conquests.
