This sector also contributes to the GDP quite substantially (almost 5% of the global GDP comes from telecom sector). As this sector is becoming ubiquitous, its sustainability is very important. In developing countries like India, its importance is even more as the environmental degradations and their effects are directly affecting the lives of the people. In this paper, we present the sustainability related issues in telecommunication in India and the associated green initiatives to enable them. We show the present telecommunication scenarios in India and the probable changes to be implemented for its sustainable future.
