LAS ILUSIONES Y LOS PADECIMIENTOS DE LA EMIGRACIÓN. EL CASO DE LOS INMIGRANTES ÁRABES MUSULMANES LEVANTINOS A CHILE 1930-1950. JORGE ARANEDA TAPIA 1 Universidad de Chile Jorge.aranedat@gmail.com Recibido: 11 de diciembre de 2014 Aceptado: 12 de abril de 2015 Resumen: El presente artículo analiza las prácticas colectivas de los inmigrantes árabes musulmanes, dentro del rango temporal que abarca desde su llegada a Chile, de 1900 a 1950, y su posterior consolidación, las que se maniiestan en los esfuerzos por perpetuar y conservar sus tradiciones, tales como lengua, ritos y prácticas religiosas, a la par que sus organizaciones sociales. Estas circunstancias, aunque coinciden con las de sus congéneres levantinos católicos ortodoxos, encontraron mayores diicultades en el caso de los musulmanes al ser, dentro del total de inmigrantes árabes, los de menor número. En segundo lugar, se analizará uno de los ritos de mayor importancia para los musulmanes que han vertido su cultura y conocimientos en las Américas y han hecho esfuerzos persistentes para conservar su confesión religiosa, en la celebración del Ramadán. Illusions and Suferings of Emigration. he Case of Levantine Arabic, Muslim Immigrants to Chile 1930-1950 Abstract: his paper analyses the collective practices of Arab Muslim immigrants, in the period going from their arrival in Chile from 1930 through 1950, and their subsequent settlement. hese practices are a proof of their eforts to perpetuate and preserve their traditions, such as language, religious rites and practices, along with social organization. hese circumstances, even though similar to those of their Levantine orthodox Catholics encountered bigger hindrances, as Muslims were in lesser number withing the whole Arab population in Chile. Secondly, one of the most important rites for Muslims come to America and continuously striving to preserve their creed, as the celebration of Ramadan will be analysed.
