171 FÚRIA EPISTOLAR: AS CARTAS DAS MULHERES DOS SOLDADOS DA BORRACHA - UMA INTERPRETAÇAO SOBRE O SIGNIFICADO DA ASSISTÊNCIA ÀS FAMÍLIAS Maria Verónica Secreto Universidade Federal Rural Rio de Janeiro Resumo Os milhares de trabalhadores nordestinos recrutados desde inícios de 1943 para trabalhar na região amazônica na extração da borracha assinaram um contrato de 'encaminha- mento', no qual podiam optar — e a grande maioria optou — pela assistência que o S.E.M.T.A. (Serviço Especial de Mobilização de Trabalhadores para Amazônia) oferecia para suas famílias que ficavam no Nordeste. Muitas mulheres e filhos desses trabalhado- res permaneceram nos seus lugares de origem ou nas hospedarias improvisadas, espe- rando o momento para empreender, também elas, a viagem que as levaria ao encontro de seus maridos, ou aguardando o retomo destes ao termo de dois anos de ingresso no seringal. O artigo investiga a relação dessas mulheres com o Estado e com seus maridos. Palavras-chave: mulheres — Amazônia — Segunda Guerra Mundial. Abstract* The thousands workers from northeast that were recruited since beginning of 1943 to work at the amazonian region in the extraction of rubber signed a `motion' contract which they could opt — and most of them did — for the assistance that S.E.M.T.A. (Mobilization Special Service of Workers for Amazon) offered to their families that were at Northeast. Thousands of these workers wives and kids remained in their birthplaces or improvised guesthouses, waiting the moment to undertake, them too, the trip that would take them to meet their husbands, or waiting for them to come back by the time of two years since their entry in the seringal.
