It is on interest to understand the impact that water management and savings have in anaerobic digestion in terms of sizing of the digester, methane production and capital costs. Therefore, two scenarios were evaluated: the first with values of the current legislation (7.0 L·pig -1 ·d -1 ) and the second from the value of manure determined in growing- finishing pig units at Santa Catarina (5.0 L·pig -1 ·d -1 ). Two designing parameters were used: Hydraulic Retention Time and Organic Load. Therefore, the potential production of methane (CH 4 ) was determined and the costs were estimated. The volume difference between the two scenarios was 29% and the CH4 production was 2.42 higher for scenario 2 (5.0 L·pig -1 ·d -1 and 45.7 g·L -1 of VS in manure). The total costs of implementation were higher or lower depending on the parameter project analyzed: considering the digester volume, the scenario 2 showed to be more expensive per m3. If the CH 4 potential production is taken into account, the digesters for the same scenario will be the cheapest ones.
