Muhammad Najib Razali Suriatini Ismail Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Yasmin Mohd. This study adopts a deskwork approach by examining research conducted, papers published in leading real estate journals, both international and locals and papers presented in main real estate conferences during period 1997 to 2007. The funding of the research are mainly from government research funds such as Intensification of Research Priorities Area (IRPA), Science Fund from Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Malaysia (MOSTI), National Property Research Coordinator Grant (NAPREC) under Ministry of Finance Malaysia, Fundamental Research Grant Scheme from the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and internal fund from various institutions. In addition, the numbers of research papers published and presented are assessed from several main real estate research journals in the US, UK and Asia/ Australia and conferences such as ARES, ERES, PRRES and AsRES. The study indicates that the Malaysian real estate researchers (MRERs) have made positive contribution to the global real estate research. Nevertheless, there are still more efforts needed in order to compete in the global real estate research agenda. It is anticipated that this trend will change since the Malaysian government has emphasised towards improving the quality of the higher learning institutions’ for which research and publication will be the main agenda.
