Uşak Üniversitesi Sosyal ”ilimler Dergisi 2016 9/2 189 Suffixes with the Function of Similarity In Turkish Selcen Çifçi * Extended Abstract In this study, the suffixes making a noun from a noun including {CA}, {+ǻIǼmsI, {+ǻIǼmtırak, {+r“k, and {+sI}, which give the meaning of similarity through affinity, have been addressed. It is aimed to determine both what kind of roots or words they are added when drawing an analogy, and how loading a meaning to derivative. {+C“, {+ǻIǼmsI, {+ǻIǼmtırak, {+r Ak}, and {+sI} are listed under the category of Diminutive in the grammar books. The equative suffix, {+CA}, gives new meanings to words by coming to an end of nouns, adjectives, and adverbs including "equal, similar, as, more, somewhat, in terms of, according to, as much as, by, little, many, exaggeration, and the most important." It is determined that there are 68 words derived by the construction of {adjective + CA} and have the meaning of close to X {+ǻyǼ“ yakınǼ. It derivates new adjectives by coming to an end of an adjective by reducing and exaggeration. All the words that {+CA} gives the meaning of reducing and exaggeration are adjectives. For this reason, it is not functional as much as the suffix, {+(I)msI}, coming to an end of both nouns and adjectives. The suffix, {-(I)msI} is the most productive equative suffix in Turkish. The suffix does not exist as {+(I)msI} in other Turkic dialects and Anatolian dialects but its variants. It gives meanings of similarity to both nouns and adjectives. While other equative suffixes come to just adjectives, this suffix comes to the end of both nouns and adjectives such as ekşimsi ǻsour-like) and dolabımsı ǻcabinet-like). It is also named as the suffix of equative case because of its extensive usage ǻ”anguoğlu ŗş57). It is determined that there are 116 nouns derived by this suffix: Fiilimsi (participle) is the only word among those 116 word, which is a noun. 116 adjectives were derived including 27 {adjective +(I)msI} constructs and 83 {noun +(I)msI} constructs. The suffix, {ǻIǼmtırak, consists of three different suffixes {+m, {+tI, and {+rAk}. It is determined that there are 16 nouns derived by this suffix. By just coming to an end of color and flavor names, it is seen making similarity in reducing degree. In this respect, the use of this suffix is limited. * Yrd. Doç.
