Jl. of Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia (2011) 20 (3), 235-245. Evaluation by University Students of the Use of Applets for Learning Physics Xavier Bohigas, Christina Periago, Xavier JaÉn, and arCadi PeJuan Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain xavier.bohigas@upc.edu christina.periago@upc.edu xavier.jaen@upc.edu arcadi.pejuan@upc.edu We present the results of a study carried out with students in their second year of Industrial Engineering to ind out stu- dents’ levels of satisfaction concerning the use of simulation tools (in this case an applet was used) as a tool for helping students learn the topic of movement by charged particles within electrical and magnetic ields. The results obtained indicate that students consider the activity carried out has helped them to understand the behaviour of particles under the action of electrical and magnetic ields. Key words: university teaching, physics teaching, electro- magnetism, electrical and magnetic ields, engineering educa- tion, student satisfaction, use of applets INTRODUCTION activities in which students have to use tools like word processors, spreadsheets, multimedia materials or interactive materials or use the capa- bilities of the internet and many other things, are now commonplace. the new information technologies are now no longer novelties and have become everyday resources at our school. We have a huge quantity of multimedia material either in Cd form or accessible on the internet, but a more detailed evaluation shows us the dificulty of inding good quality learning material (altherr et al., 2004).
