The water of Zit Emba is an element having a dramatic impact ecological and landscape considerably.
The environmental impacts can be assessed by specialists. From the point of landscaping view, the
problem is quite complex. Given that all major water bodies are very attractive and still seduce the eye.
This is explained by the fact that large bodies of water (dams, lakes, etc…) condense in several
respects landscape by bringing together in one place the physical components of the territory namely
natural terrain, water and various forms of vegetation. This is the case of Zit Emba dam near the town of
Bekkouche Lakhdar in the wilaya of Skikda in northeastern Algeria. This stretch of water that appears in
its complex structure makes the quantitative estimation very difficult. For this reason, we used a
method of qualitative estimate based on a visual approach and landscape to assess the potential of the
dam Zit Emba.
Key words: Dam, visual field, landscape planning, Bekkouche Lakhdar, Algeria.
INTRODUCTION
Plans of water constitute "the soul" of the landscapes.
Indeed around these plans of water in the same
combined places the physical and essential components
of the natural territory as the relief and the various forms
of vegetations that is cohabiting. The scenic and
picturesque qualities of the plans of waters make of them
the privileged places of the attendance (company) by the
visitors and so confer them an higher degree of the
landscaped value according to (Griselin and Ormaux,
1999; Fischesser and Dupuis-Tate, 2006; Davodeau,
2007). We begin to attach importance to increasing the
social function of plans of water. This attention is fully
justified to demand from the public that continues to
grow. The Algerian rural middle holds significant

advantages in tourism and recreation, can now build a
sustainable development policy. This policy can become
a reality if it agrees to answer towards the necessities as
well of the production as the environmental protection.
Many studies on the use of water bodies for recreation
and leisure continue with art in European countries and
the United States. Of our bibliographical research we
note a total absence of such studies in Algeria. As for our
work, it concerned a specific stretch of water due to its
nature and its vocation. It is about the dam of Zit Emba,
situated in the north-eastern of Algeria. It is intended to
supply drinking water and irrigation of farmland.
Our work had two objectives:
1) Show that in the context of sustainable development,
the potential dam and landscape sitology enable it to
perform other duties as assigned initially;
2) Raise awareness and popularize the functions of
