Based on stoichiometric and slope analysis methods a possible mechanism for the extraction has been proposed. INTRODUCTION The extraction of Zr(IV) by several extractants has been extensively studied 1-4 but very little is known about the phenomenon of synergism or antagonism related to Zr(IV) species. Also, the identity of the primary solvated species or other species in equilibrium with it needs to be established. The probable influence of the counter anions of the acids is also relatively not much evaluated.
