p. 1 The Siege of Ceuta (1418-1419) Vitor Manuel Inácio Pinto 1 Send: 24-11-2015 Accept: 26-11-2015 ABSTRACT. At the time of writing this article, we celebrate the 600th century of the conquest of Ceuta. As expected, during the current year within the historiographical sphere it was written, and much, about this conquest. The squeezed juice than if wrote revitalized face to so many other investigations once performed. It was in the shadows of the Portuguese historiography the key moment in the consolidation of this achievement; I am referring to the concerted siege by the Muslims three years after the conquest of Ceuta - 1415. However, the approximately three thousand Portuguese - who have been tasked to protecting Ceuta, led by Count D. Pedro de Meneses - still wiped the last tears from the eyes, when they saw the Portuguese boats to disappear on the horizon after the conquest of Ceuta, and already did the first skirmishes with the Muslims. It is true that these first reprisals, with more or less difficulty, were remedied; but it was obvious that would happen, as well as in subsequent periods the infidels Christians and intruders were the 'such' old enemies, which the overnight fell on Ceuta. Having said this, our intention is to demonstrate in this work, the huge siege which Ceuta was subject by the Muslim, between 1418 and 1419, and everything that involved the attempt to regain the city and, of course, the form as the three thousand portuguese soldiers defended. Now, for this, we analyzed exhaustively the informative report that Gomes Eanes de Zurara, chronicler-mor of the portuguese Kingdom bequeathed to us, through the Chronicle of Conde Pedro de Meneses, clearly in obedience and the will expressed by King D. Afonso V (1438-1481). KEYWORDS: Ceuta, Siege, D.
