Work Life Balance is a very wide subject which talks about both career development on one side and the family caring on the other side, it is important to know how the people balance their professional demands and family demands. This this research article aims to identify the level of work life balance among engineering college teaches and to identify the various practices adopted by the institutions to enable teachers to balance between professional life and personal life. This study found that most of the teachers were working with a sense of missing life and the institutions have not taken any steps to overcome them. KEYWORDS Work Life Balance, Missing Life, Job Satisfaction, Work Life Conflict etc. INTRODUCTION Work life is referred as work and family. To balance between the family responsibilities and work responsibilities has become a challenge for the people in all professions. The concept of work life has been abstracted from the job satisfaction level of an employee, in relation to how much time he is getting in a day to spend with his or her family. Work Life Balance is a very wide subject, which talks about both career development on one side and the family caring on the other side, it is important to know how the people balance their professional demands and family demands. With the development in educational, economical and social standards, things have improved to a great extent and the role of teachers in balancing their lifestyle has become tedious .Work life balance for teaching profession has become one of the greatest challenges in today‘s scenario. Teacher’s workload not only gets over in institutions but also it is stretched afterwards. Apart from academic administrative works, they are forced to take up research, which affects their work life balance. This study is an attempt to understand the situations of teachers working with educational institutions and their way of effectively balancing personal and professional life. REVIEW OF LITERATURE Work-life balance refers to people having enough time to have balance in their job and home life. The study conducted by Kinman (2001), concluded that the strongest factor of psychological distress and job dissatisfaction was related to work life conflict. Goodstein (1994) in his study has found that the demand from organisations to attend to the family responsibilities of employees has been increasing due to the rise in the number of single parent’s households and dual earners. Karakas and Lee, (2004) identified that the following factors as a major issue of work life balance. Spending good time with family members, getting free time to be able to relax for emotional wellbeing and health of family members , having good communication and support from the fellow colleagues, obtaining high quality child care and education; and being satisfied with the work load. He found out that over half of the academics surveyed complained that they have to regularly work at home during the evenings which are the major cause of stress. Netemeyer, Boles and McMurrian (1996) in their study found that majority of the employees remained preoccupied with work issues even after leaving the workplace and feel difficulties in sleep at home. Academic institutes particularly have lower operational budgets normally pay low salaries and have poor working conditions, People working in such institutions, result in the lower quality of work life and this leads to low productivity of the staff and high turnover. The contribution of the teaching staff plays an important role in success of the institution. The institutions must identify such issues which are important to improve the quality of the institution. This study is to measure and analyse the work life conflict among college teachers. OBJECTIVES OF STUDY The study was carried out with the following objectives: To study the level of WLB among teachers of different educational institutions. To identify the various factors that influences the work life balance.
