In 2009, due to leakages, black-marketing and corruption in PDS, Uttar Pradesh government has taken certain decision for improving the distribution system of ration for PDS such as providing information through Short Message Service (SMS) on mobile phone to the customers regarding the delivery of ration through fair price shops(for monitoring the delivery system under PDS).The authors have also tried to examine that to what extent SMS based monitoring scheme has helped to improve delivery system of PDS.
