Pérez, Jorge Machado, Cristo M. Hernández, Juan V. Morales, Jean Ph. Brugal y Bertila Galván ABSTRACT Isolating more chronologically-bounded minimal units of historical analy- sis is and essential methodological goals of current Palaeolithic researchs. However, this objective, which is geared to improve levels of temporal reso- lution for the behavioral studies of past human populations, is hampered by the palimpsest condition of Pleistocene deposits. From this assumption, the interdisciplinary work carried out at the Middle Palaeolithic site of El Salt (Alcoi, Alicante) seeks to ind analytical procedures that may assist in archaeological palimpsest dissection. Here, we present the results of a com- parative archaeozoological analysis based on the use of two types of minimal units of analysis that were archaeostratigraphically isolated within El Salt Stratigraphic Unit X. These results show the feasibility of the method and the high information potential concealed in faunal assemblages when these are separated into ine analytical units to approach “ethnographic” time. INTRODUCCIÓN La dimensión temporal de los comportamientos humanos del pasado, junto con los procesos de formación y transformación de los depósitos arqueose- dimentarios condicionan, inexorablemente, el análisis e interpretación de los registros arqueológicos resultantes (Leroi-Gourhan y Brézillon, 1972; Ye- llen, 1977; Binford, 1981; Bailey, 1983; Schifer, 1987; Audouze y Enloe, 1997;
