Jana Długosza w Częstochowie Communicaion with a mother and popularity of an adolescent in a school class 1 Communication in a family is a problem which is of constant interest to psychology, pedagogy and sociology. It results from the fact that a family is the irst social group which a person contacts [Mendecka, Góra 1993, p. 14], it is the place of acquiring important experiences, knowledge and skills which allow functioning and living in a social world. A family is deined as a place where a child’s personality is formed. A human being ‘during his lifetime stays in various relations with other people’ [Pielkowa 1993, p. 32], but nothing is able to replace family in creating the direct, personal connections, whose warmth is essential for a mental life [Braun- Gałkowska 2008, p. 22]. he relationship with a mother is the strongest one, but it is also an important factor which inluences the development of skills which allow to create positive interpersonal contacts [Niebrzydowski 1999, p. 89]. Depending what the relations with parents look like, the future contacts of a child with the wider society will be developed as well. he quality of the interaction with other people will depend on the mother and her attitude to a child. Creating positive interpersonal relations with others is connected with communication [Ochoa, Siguencia, 2013], which is ‘the basic tool of mutual relations of a child with the surrounding world’ [Kuśpit 2004, p.1]. Communication is the essential tool of fulilling psychological and sociological 1 his paper is based on the empirical material from the M.A. thesis written by M.
