USAHA ADAPTIF WANITA LANSIA DALAM MENGHADAPI MASA MENOPAUSE DAN HUBUNGANNYA DENGAN STATUS KESEHATAN MENTAL Fredia Heppy ABSTRACT Degenerative procces were normal in older people, but impact of hormonal inbalance in elderly have influenced mental state of older women. There were several adaptation mechanism of subject to avoid clinical manifestation of mental disorders such as suppression, realitiy anticipation, altruism and develop sense of humor. Objective of this study to know association aptative mechanism of older women to face menopause periode with mental health state. Study was a descriptive analytic with crossectional design. Study was done in village region in Aur Birugo Tigobaleh Bukittinggi. Sample have been taken with systematic simple random sampling. After excluded several criteria, sample have gotten 104 subjects. Primary data were gotten with interview guiding technic and analyzed with X 2 formula whereas significancy p<0,05. Result of this study were 95% subjects had adaptive mechanism to face menopause periode and older age, reality anticipation with region was the most choise mechanism (100%) and last choise was altruism with sports (44%) and organization activity (40%). Almost subjects were free from mental disorder (81%). Anxiety and sensitive of feelings were the most clinical symptoms (100%). Association of mental disorders with adaptive mechanism was significant (p=0,00). Study were concluded that mental disorders associated with adaptive mechanism to face menopause periode in elderly women. Key words: adaptive mechanism, elderly, menopause, mental health state.
