Input signal coming from the normally opened warning devices such as heat detector and/or smoke detector; the unit which has the detectors is called a slave unit controller. Output signal is dispatched to Master Unit Controller for analysis. The transmission line between MASTER and SLAVE units is a wireless transmission line using ZIGBEE module. Comparing the presented design with exiting marketing system (1) and system (2); we find our design is the lowest in total power dissipation. Introduction In the near future we expect buildings to be equipped with a range of wireless sensors and actuators functioning as part of an overall building management system. Included in this set of sensors will be devices to monitor fire and smoke and to respond to the sensed events, allowing detection, localization and tracking of fires [1], and providing minimization in system components and maintenance. We are developing a variety of techniques and application solutions to enable this vision of enhanced fire response through wireless embedded systems [1]. Automatic fire alarm system provides real- time surveillance, monitoring and automatic alarm. It sends early alarm when the fire occurs and helps to reduce the fire damage. Wireless sensor network has become the most important technology in environmental monitoring and home or factory automation in recent years. An automatic fire alarm system based on wireless sensor networks is developed, which is designed for high-rise buildings. In order to provide early extinguishing of a fire disaster, large numbers of detectors which periodically measure smoke concentration or temperature are deployed in buildings, [2]. The fire alarm systems are used as a life safety so they must be designed and installed with a high level of reliability. The control panel will receive information from input devices, [3]; will process that information and trigger an alarm sirens and/or strobes. There are three basic types of fire alarm control panels, conventional panels, addressable panels, and wireless panels. The presented design is a modification in the conventional fire alarm system to be an intelligent and wireless system in the same time, provides all the advantages of the conventional alarm system and high technology wireless procedure. The presented design protective area is a wide area like hangars, stores, shops…..etc, to minimize the total cost of system components and maintenance in that area. For system maintenance, all system components, like detectors, controllers (ATMEGA32), [1], wireless modules (XBEE), or LCD are available in the market. In this paper, we present an overview of our work in five areas: explanation of the presented design structure, flow diagram, and discussion of Zigbee module, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and the system results. 2. Fire detection and alarm system Fire Detection and Alarm System is electronic equipment which detects fire and make alarm as warning of fire. Fire generates smoke, heat and light and all the three parameters have been used for the detection of fire. Different types of Detectors sense the smoke and heat using different techniques depending on the location and probable nature of fire. Typically a place will have a special type of heat detection mechanism rather than simple smoke detection. The significance of all the detection system is that they give alarm just after the outbreak of fire, [4]. Conventional fire alarm system: The most basic alarm system is designed to only be initiated manually. This is a local warning system similar to the type installed in Schools or theatres. Any fire alarm system includes a control panel, alarm initiating devices, notification appliances, and the accessory equipment necessary for a complete function in fire alarm system. A conventional control panel can only detect on/off signals and will use ICGST Computer Science and Engineering Conference, India-Goa-Online, 18--20 December 2012 9
