SSU-Engineering Pebble Vol 4 2005-2006 ISSN 190857 135 Ronald Orale: Paper won as Outstanding Applied Research in the 2006 R&D Contest-Developmental R&D Category During the 5 th EVCIERD Anniversary Celebration Land Use Zoning for Industrial Use Based on Geohazard Assessment ___________________________________________________________ Abstract: The study aims to generate a land-use map to locate the most appropriate area in Catbalogan, Samar for the industry to thrive with less threat against geohazard like landslide, flooding, storm surge etc. The study also provided some important information about how to reduce risk from geohazard phenomena. Record shows that Eastern Visayas region specifically Catbalogan, Samar is a calamity stricken town. It experienced in the past landslides, storm surges, tropical cyclones, earthquakes, drought, and floods. The current land use zoning established by the local government of Catbalogan have not considered geologic hazards in their planning. Based on the data gathered, the most suitable area for industrial purposes considering accessibility, geologic hazards, and population density are baranggays Old Mahayag, New Mahayag, Iguid, Silangga, Popua, San Vecente and Pangdan.
