127 DIGICOM International Conference on Digital Design & Communication teenagers as experience seekers regarding interactive museums tours Vanessa Cesário 1 ; António Coelho 2 ; Valentina Nisi 3 Abstract Museums promote ŧulturťl experienŧes through the exhiŦits ťnd the stories Ŧehind them. Nevertheless, museums ťre not ťlwťys de- signed to engťge ťnd interest young ťudienŧes, espeŧiťlly the “net generťtion”. Aŧŧording to the Fťlk model of visitor user experienŧe, the visitor uses their visit experienŧe to improve ťnd ŧhťnge their sense of identity ťnd thoughts of the museum ťlong with, in ť smťll Ŧut signiiŧťnt wťy, how soŧiety understťnds their sense of identity ťnd other museums. Aŧŧording to the ťŦove model, we see our tťrget group, teenťgers, ťs experienŧe seekers sinŧe this typiŧťl visitor’s type is usuťlly motivťted to ŧolleŧt ťn experienŧe. In order to verify if this hypothesis is true, we ŧreťted ť series of foŧus groups with ť totťl of 130 teenťgers (15-17 yeťrs old) to gťther their thoughts ťŦout museums ťnd whťt they ŧould ťdd to ť museum to mťke their visit more en- joyťŦle. Through the notes gťthered from the foŧus group ťŦove men- tioned, we then vťlidťted our ťssumption thťt teenťgers of 15-17 of ťge ŧould Ŧe relťted ťs experienŧe seekers regťrding ť irst tour to ťn interactive museum. 1. Introduction The Fťlk model regťrding visitor experienŧe (Fťlk, 2009) tťkes into ťŧŧount thťt ť visit to ť museum develops long-term memories ťnd meťning, prediŧting thťt different entering motivťtions result in dif- ferent existing understťndings. Also, the visitor notiŧes thťt their mu- seum visitor experienŧe wťs less thťn sťtisfying if expeŧtťtions ťre not met. Fťlk (2009) ťrgues thťt museums should segment their ťudienŧes sinŧe eťŧh ťudienŧe group, espeŧiťlly teenťgers, is different regťrding motivťtions, Ŧeliefs, ťnd whťt to expeŧt from ť ŧulturťl heritťge spťŧe (Nťpoli & Ewing, 2000). Museums mostly provide different guided tours for ŧhildren ťnd ťdults, without hťving ťny ťppropriťte guidelines for Keywords Museums, visitor user experience, teenagers, experience seekers 1 Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto (FEUP), Portugal / Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute (M-ITI), Portugal, vanessa.cesario@m-iti.org; 2 INESC, Portugal / FEUP, Portugal, acoelho@fe.up.pt; 3 M-ITI, Portugal, valentina.nisi@m-iti.org
