Arockia Raj, Asst. Professor, PG & Research Dept. of Social Work, Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur, Vlr Dt. Abstract Library is an essential aspect of any academic quality. NAAC and UGC has emphasized the need for a quality library with effective services. The 21 st generation technologies have dampened the use of it by the students. However it is imperative for the college to enhance the quality of library to attract students. This paper is an outcome of a study conducted with 60 college youth from UG and PG and form both the gender. This descriptive paper highlights the utilization of the library by the students and their attitude, family reading environment, interest in reading, satisfaction towards the library facilities of the academic library in the college. This paper lists the various recommendations to the colleges to enhance the quality of its library services. Library is to be considered as the heart an academic institution, where students rely on knowledge resources for their academic excellence. Jubb and Green (2007) observe that academic libraries have for centuries played critically important roles in supporting research in all subjects and disciplines within their host universities or colleges. Aina (2004) is to support the objectives of an academic environment as in the areas of learning, teaching, research, and service. Literature Review Libraries caters numerous services its stakeholders, addressing their needs, characteristics, and interest (Andaleeb, 2001). Franscotti, et al. (2007) found in his study that the attitude of students to use library differed by their intention to use library. The infiltration of electronic sources like wild fire has formidably impacted the use of library in a traditional way. It also contributes negatively to the use of library by the students and staff. Hence the availability of alternatives like personal e-resources and Internet connection are very crucial. Yusuf and Iwu (2010) found in his study that majority (88%) of the students visited library just to prepare for examination. Online sources were accessed and used more than the printed copies in the library. In another study by Oyesiku and Oduwole (2004) found that use of library was more among male students than the female students. Kamin (1984) found that the use of library was significantly related to
