With the advancement of technology, users tend to search most of the information including the Quran verses through the internet. Al-Quran consists of various keywords with similar meaning. Thus, it is crucial to create a knowledge representation for Quran verses. Moreover, it is also very challenging to retrieve useful knowledge from Quran. Due to these problems, a good solution to improve Quran verses retrieval accuracy rate is important. Indexing is seen as the most suitable way in structuring and retrieving the information from the Quran Verses by implementing a suitable indexing algorithm. There are still rooms for improvement for the existing algorithm. This paper investigates and evaluates the methods used by previous researchers for indexing algorithm focusing on knowledge representation of Quran verses. This paper also highlights the future challenges, strength and weaknesses in this area. Keywords: Indexing Algorithm; Systematic Review; Systematic Analysis; Quran Indexing 1. Introduction Due to the continued demand for Islamic knowledge, many researchers had taken part in exploring and revealing the precious knowledge found in the Holy Quran. Therefore, a scientific way is needed to extract and represent the knowledge from Quran verses (Ku- mahamud et al., 2012). In the initial stage of the knowledge representation research, many researches had been carried out using a keyword-based method. This method basically starts by finding possible combinations of keywords that are relevant to the desired words. Currently, researchers uses semantic-based method where it helps to retrieve the information using similarity to match the contextual meaning of keyword (Yauri et al., 2013). The review method in this paper carried out following the Kitchenham (Kitchenham, 2004). A systematic review is defined as “a mean of identifying, evaluating and interpreting all available research relevant to a particular research question, or topic area, or phenomenon of interest” (Kitchenham et al., 2009). A systematic review is being conducted to build a strong fundamental in evidence-based research and the result that derived from scientific experiment (Azni et al., 2015). The objectives of this paper are to investigate and evaluate the method used by previous researchers for indexing algorithm focusing on knowledge representation of Quran verses and to highlight the future challenges, strengths and weaknesses for knowledge representation of the Quran verses. In this paper, section 2 represents the related works on systematic review analysis in this area. Meanwhile, section 3 presents the review method used and Section 4 describes the finding and results. Section 5 provides future work followed by the summary of this paper in Section 6.
