Transl Biomed. Vol.8 No.4:131 Introducion Hypertension according to Zhao and Alsop [1] is abnormal high blood pressure in the arteries. It oten remains asymptomaic unil late in its course. Devin and Binder [2] reported that risks of stroke, myocardial infarcion, angina, heart failure, kidney failure or early death from a cardiovascular cause are directly correlated with blood pressure. It is oten called silent killer because it has no symptoms unil serious complicaions develop [3]. Amira [4] opined that obesity, heredity and life style play a role in the development of hypertension. Alpha one ani-trypsin (AAT) is a member of the serine protease inhibitors (serpin) family [5] which may paricipate in pathological condiions such as tumor invasion and metastasis which require degradaion of the basement membrane, simulaion of angiogenesis and migraion [6]. Haptoglobin (Hp) is a plasma α 2- glycoprotein which binds free hemoglobin, thus, prevening oxidaive damage. Reiculoendothelial system removes Haptoglobin-hemoglobin Received: July 03, 2017; Accepted: September 18, 2017; Published: September 25, 2017 Abstract Inlammaion is associated with diferent cardiovascular diseases like in hypertension. This study to evaluate the level of alpha one ani-trypsin (AAT) and haptoglobin in hypertension was carried out on paients atending Madonna University Hospital (MUTH), Elele, Rivers State, Nigeria. The research was done on a total of one hundred (100) subjects. Fity (50) of this populaion were hypertensive paients (Test) while ity (50) were the control. Their age ranged from 45-65 years. Alpha one ani-trypsin and haptoglobin were measured by Mispa Auto-analyzer Nephelometric immunoassay method. The results were analyzed using staisical package for social science (SPSS) version 20. The results showed a signiicant increase (P<0.05) in haptoglobin in hypertensive subjects (120.9 ± 54.90 mg/dl) when compared with the control (47.7 ± 32.61 mg/dl). Haptoglobin was elevated in hypertension. Hence, level of haptoglobin could be used to predict cardiovascular risk in paients with certain disease condiions. The results also showed signiicant increase (P<0.05) in the AAT level of hypertensive subjects (293.7 ± 59.86 mg/dl) compared to the control (158.8 ± 52.14 mg/dl) respecively. Alpha one ani-trypsin plays a role as a biomarker in hypertension. Keywords: Alpha one ani-trypsin; Haptoglobin; Hypertensive paients Evaluaion of Alpha One Ani-Trypsin and Haptoglobin in Hypertensive Paients in Elele complex. As it funcions to bind free hemoglobin, it allows degradaive enzymes to gain access to the hemoglobin while at the same ime prevening loss of iron through the kidneys and protecing the kidney from damage by hemoglobin. Hypertension is a major public health threat worldwide. It is important to determine the level of hemoglobin in hypertensive paients in Elele.
