Abstract With the advancement in automation technology things are becoming very simpler and easier to control automatically. Manual systems are being replaced by automatic systems rapidly. Automatic system provides accurate control so they are being preferred over manual systems. The system described in this paper provides automatic control of electrical appliances (light) according to the presence of the humans and light intensity in a building. Keywords - Automation, Microcontroller, Motion Sensors, LDR, LCD Display, Relay. 1. INTRODUCTION With the help of automation things are easier to control without human work. Automatic system provides accurate control of things for which the system is designed whereas in manual systems accuracy is compromised. Automation is the use of control systems and intelligent devices to develop a system which reduces the human work in the production of goods and services. Automation decreases the need for human sensory and mental requirements as well. Automation plays significant role in the world economy and in daily experience. 2. BUILDING AUTOMATION SYSTEM Building Automation System (BAS) [2] is a system which controls the various electrical appliance of a building (home/ office/ exhibition hall etc.) according the conditions and requirements. BAS includes control of lights, fans, air conditioner, water storage system and security systems etc. to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security. Disable persons can improve their quality of life using Building Automation Systems as further they will not depend on others to manually operate the appliances. Building Automation Systems are also helpful in economic improvement as they will reduce the wastage of power to a great extent. 3. NEED OF AUTOMATION Here some points are listed to specify the need of an automatic system or automation [3]:
