DATE: 14 TH – 17 TH MAY, 2018. Abstract This study was set to ascertain the air conditioner maintenance skill training needs by technical college students for job security in Abia State. Three research questions guided the study in line with the purpose of the study with three null hypotheses tested at .05 level of significance. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population for the study comprised of 54 respondents (7 technical college teachers and 47 craftsmen) in Aba South, Aba North and Ukwa East Local Government Areas of Abia State respectively obtained via preliminary study conducted by the researchers. Due to manageable size of the population, there was no sampling. Data pertinent to the study were collected using a structured questionnaire developed by the researchers. The questionnaire titled ACMSTNTCSJSQ was validated by experts and the reliability of the instrument was established using Cronbach Alpha which gave a high co-efficient result of .73. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while hypotheses were tested using t-test at .05 level of significance. Some of the findings include: air conditioner fault models by symptom skill is required for training technical college students for job security in Abia State as it analysizes faults models among others like no cooling effect at all, poor cooling efficiency and noisy fault; practical skills like ability to recharge refrigerant, competency in the use of appropriate parts are also necessary for training technical college students for job security in Abia State. It was therefore recommended among others that education policy makers and implementers should encourage and consider the use of environmental approach (industrial/workshop) to skill acquisition vital for professional development of students at technical colleges for job security through air conditioner maintenance skill training to be actualized by technical college students on graduation in Abia State.
