The proximity capability of the sensors was used to send the signal to the microcontroller. The range of the proximity sensor was changed through the process called thermosensation. Light emitting diodes (LEDs) were used as indicators of the content status. This project can be powered by a 9V DC power input or a DC power supply not exceeding 12V. Some of its variations include a manual stepper to open the lid while others include sensors which are commonly automatically or manually triggered. Currently, the trend is shifting towards smart devices and internet of things (IoT) solutions to overcome common problems such as waste management issues. Arduino microcontroller is known as one of the most popular prototyping devices that can implement such functions. In this study, the researchers will interface the aforementioned microcontroller to a servo motor, ultrasonic sensors and set of LEDs to produce a touchless trash bin. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY The prime objective of this study is to design and implement an automatic lid opening trash bin with content monitoring capability that can produce precise and accurate outputs. Specifically, this study aims to: Identify the hardware and software requirements for the design and development the system. Design and construct a prototype that will automatically open the lid of the trash bin when the sensor sensed a presence of nearby object and give alert of the status of the contents of the container through LEDs. Program the microcontroller to achieve and implement the desired actions of the motor and LEDs. Test the functionality of the system and determine the effectiveness of the system through repeated testing.
