Students (n= 389) from various academic levels and programs at UMN had participated in completing survey questioners. Based on this data, the trends are evaluated by categorizing usage into two types; normal usage and usage for accessing news. Results indicate that majority of students in UMN used mobile electronic devices as platform to interact with people, build social networks, surfing in the internet and accessing email. To study, the trends in mobile electronic usage for accessing news, questions related to accessing news activities such as type, format, and topic of news, were asked. Research results indicate 18% of the participants used mobile electronic devices in accessing news in regular time. On the other hand, only few participants used mobile electronic devices for downloading class material (4%). Keyword: mobile electronic device usage, mobile for news, mobile for learning
