Although the metal based material is suitable and robust but its need high precision machining and painting process to produce it. This paper presents the development the body structure of robot soccer by using plastic technology. By using this technology, the fabrication of the robot structure become easier and faster with low production cost. This process called ‘vacuum casting’ which involve the plastic material such as silicon mould and several mixture chemical liquids and also the color of materials. The analysis of this process included the comparison between the robot body structures in term of weight, color and cost. The result from the analysis decided whether plastic robot structure is suitable use in robot soccer game. Keywords-robot body structure, vacuum casting I. Introduction Robot soccer is an interesting and educational game. Robot soccer game also gives researcher to test the efficiency and compatibility of theories and technique into application area [3]. Recently, it has become popular among educational institution such as polytechnics in Malaysia. The robot soccer game that was played here is five by five supported with camera to capture robot image also ball condition and using Bluetooth server as a communication medium between robot and computer. There were several factors to influence the designed robot such as: weight of robot, material used, size, type and motion [4]. In this paper, we proposed to fabricate the robot body structure by using plastic material. All specification of the robot still remains as previous Merlin robot soccer except for the material used for the body robot. After that, the comparison between plastic body and aluminum body will be carried out in terms of weight, color and cost. The section 2 of this paper briefly overview the Merlin robot soccer and plastic robots recently. In section 3, we describe the process involved for the proposed method which is vacuum casting process and the resin that were used. While section 4 present the result and discussion (comparison between plastic and aluminum metal). Finally, section 5 will be conclusion and suggestion research for future work.
