The Use of the Life Stories of Female Heroes to be Gained the Value of Patriotism in
Social Studies Courses

Perpetuity of a nation can be associated with the degree of the value,
devotion and sacrifice of the individuals to their countries who form the
countries. As to be expressed with M.C Kuntay’s verse ‘’What makes the
flag a real flag is the blood on it, if someone died for the country it is
homeland.’’, the value of patriotism in the education program has a special
importance to raise a generation who has conciousness to sacrifice itself for
it’s country. The loyalty and the love of the Turkish people to their country
are proved to World by many events, especially with Çanakkale and War of
Independence. The stories of the female heroes must be used as teaching
material in social studies education in order to be felt by children the effect
of Turkish women’s soul of patriotism, solidarity and struggle to win the
War of Independence in the front and back and also in order to improve the
emotion of patriotism in self discovery via empathy. In this study, the aim is
to identify the life stories of female heroes which can be used with the aim of
bringing the value of ‘’patriotism’’ which is in the Social Studies Program.
In this research, documents review was used which is a research method that
includes finding the sources, reading, taking note and evoluation with a
spesific target. In order to determine the life stories of female heroes, some
sources like book, article etc which are related with this topic were surveyed
and the life stories was presented in the way to use in courses.
