Employee motivation, in turn, is mostly influenced by various dimensions of organizational climate prevailing in a particular organization. However, among researchers there is no unanimity of opinion either on the conceptual framework of organizational climate or on the dimensions of organizational climate, which affect employee motivation to a substantial extent. Hence, research studies conducted so far in this direction do not offer findings which may be commonly acceptable by one and all. Hence, there is a need for more research so as to arrive at a commonly agreed view. INTRODUCTION Employee motivation is central to management as it explains why employees behave the way they do in organisations. The output, quality, cost of production, productivity , profit, etc. - all are determined, to a large extent, by the way the employees behave in an organisation. Hence, in order to get positive results, employee motivation is of utmost importance. Though employee motivation is affected by a number of factors, but the organisation climate plays a very important role in this direction. It is for this reason, in particular, that the topic, Impact of organisational climate on employee motivation, has been chosen to be deliberated upon in the present paper. However, before entering into the discussion, it will be worthwhile to understand a few issues related to ‘organisational climate’ and ‘motivation’ or employee motivation’. ORGANISATIONAL CLIMATE What the organistionalclimate is all about, is a controversial issue. It has been referred to as a dependent variable, 1 independent variable, recurring patterns of behaviour triggered by values etc. and practiced in an organisation over a period of time, 2 general perception of the employees about the organizational climate pervading in the enterprise from time to time, enduring quality of the organisation’s internal environment experienced by its employees, 3 function of an employee and his interaction with the organisation’s environment, 4 and so on. The matter does not end even here. There
