SANJIV KUMAR 2 1 Research Scholar, Department of Commerce, M.D.University, Rohtak-124001, Haryana, India 2 Professor, Department of Commerce, M.D.University, Rohtak-124001, Haryana, India, Abstract: Special Economic Zones (SEZs) have been recognised as an important instrument for trade and investment promotion, employment generation, creation of infrastructure, promotion of regional development, increase in foreign exchange earnings, improving export competitiveness and transfer of skills and technology. These are considered as growth drivers in the developing countries. SEZs in Haryana witnessed inclined growth in terms of increased SEZ units, and as well as in terms of performance in the field of exports and employment generation. Through this paper an attempt is made to study the current status and performance of SEZs in Haryana. The study shows that the performance of SEZs of Haryana was better than export performance of Total SEZs in India. An attempt is also made to study the causes of below expectation performance of SEZs in Haryana. The study found that factors like poor rehabilitation policy, economic downturn, countervailing duties, difficulty in land acquisition and poor infrastructure facilities contributes to below expectation performance of SEZs in Haryana. Through this paper an attempt is also made to study the impact of SEZs in Haryana KEY WORDS: SEZs, Exports, Employment Generation, Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation Policy
