Abstract— The impact of information technology on
libraries has been profound. This is a technology for
processing and transmitting information on libraries.
Many have become enthusiastic and expert proponents for
the value of Information and Communication Technology
based services [Gorman, 2002]. Among the various
technologies, the RIFID seemed to be domination in the
information industry as a means to improve efficiency in
library activities and services. In fact, this is one the
significant technologies of the new millennium that had
invaded the libraries.
I. INTRODUCTION
RFID- based systems very useful for keep tracking the
materials and charge and discharge of material handling.
Although the technology is still considered emerging need
especially in Indian context and it is based on electronics
therefore major breakthroughs are not only easy, but are most
essential and expected. During the last several years the jargon
smart labels are the buzz words often heard as a supplement to
RFID technology. Although this technology has been adopted
by the software industries in India to some extent, but the
libraries are in the primitive stage and this technology of
RFID applications in libraries is slowly introducing or
implementing and most library science department is having
workshop or conference on this RFID technology and their
advantages of usability and its reality has to be realized in
Libraries in the years to come.
An attempt made in this paper to provide crystal overview of
RFID technology it means to strengthen the automation
activities of libraries with a view to improve the efficiency of
information services to the user community in the light of the
fourth law save the time of users.
II. RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION
In RFID radio waves are used to automatically identify people
or objects. Many methods are available for identification but
best method is to store a unique serial number that is used to
identify an object through micro ship which is attached with
an antenna. The micro ship and the antenna connected
together are called RFID tag. The RFID tag also called RFID
transponder. The antenna can transmit the identification data
to a reader from chip. The reader reads and converts radio
wavers into digital also pass into computers. The computers
once received digital data it connect their automated software
system which can make use of regular work of library system.
III. COMPONENTS OF RFID SYSTEMS
The RFID system has mainly four components which are:

Readers or sensors Managing tags , sending or
receiving data through query
into data base.
Antenna Managing signals for
activation of tag , read and
write data
RFID tags Managing unique
information about object for
identification
