Limes Vol 1 (2019). 257-266 Israel's Framing of Iranian Defense Policy 1 Abdolrasool Divsallar 1- Introduction The current dynamics of events between Iran on one side and Israel-U.S- Saudi Arabia on the other side is on the path of a violent outbreak. This regional conflict will not only entangle the Middle East in all-out chaos, but will also have catastrophic consequences for Europe and global order. Israeli-Iranian rising tension over Iranian deployment of military forces in Syria is one of the major issues. Sources in Israel claims that Iran's force structure in Syria includes 2,000-5,000 Quds forces, 90,000 Syrian Militant (NDF) under Iranian Command, 50,000 Local Defense Forces (LDF), 10,000-15,000 Fatemiyoun and Zeinabiyoun Shiite militants, Iraqi Shiite Rapid intervention Forces, 4,000-9,000 Hezbollah forces, and number of Lebanese and Iraqi mercenaries 2 . This formidable force is conceived by Israeli officials as the major security threat that they are determined to block it even if this means a military confrontation with Iran 3 . Finding a solution to ease the tensions needs a better understanding of the reasons and logic of Iran's military buildup in Syria, from the Iranian view. It is critical to discern what led Iranian officials insist on their presence in Syria amid the risks and costs of their deployment. Knowing these perspectives could help to explain why increasing the level of pressure and threat over Iran to pull back from its regional policies, on the contrary could result in more aggressive responses. Understanding Iran's defense strategy is on the core of such an attempt.
