Glossary Some terms as they are used in this paper: Catechecal Process: This describes a me of preparaon for a person to join the Orthodox Church, which includes instrucon in Orthodox theology and pracce, aending services, a length of me to elapse, and any other requirements prior to receiving the convert into the Church. Church, The: The Eastern Orthodox Church. For further details, see ‘Orthodox’ below. Convert: A person who joins the Orthodox Church aſter following a different faith tradion (or no faith tradion), and especially while they are in the process of becoming Orthodox (unl approximately a year aſter they are received into the Church). 1 Disaffiliaon: In this essay, when an Orthodox Chrisan chooses to cease aending an Orthodox worshipping community. Due to Orthodox ecclesiology, this can include aending any non-Orthodox community instead, or simply choosing not to aend any community at all. Mission: A worshipping community of Orthodox Chrisans – generally indicang that there is no permanent church structure or that there are a small number of members. 1 To call someone who had been received into the Church many years prior, while common, is seen by some as offensive or infanlising.
