The Study of Kinship: New Data, Current Issues INCESTO E REDE MATRIMONIAL ENTRE OS ARARA: UMA ABORdAgEM PRELIMINAR (KARIB, ESTAdO Of PARá, BRASIL) Márnio Teixeira-Pinto Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina Resumo Com uma população pequena e relativamente isolada, os Arara (Karib, Pará) viveram durante décadas uma realidade de endogamia efetiva, com uma relativa incidência de casamentos incestuosos. Depois de uma descrição de alguns desses casamentos e incestuosas encontrados nos dados genealógicos, descrevo alguns aspectos da rede matrimonial Arara relacionados às práticas de incesto, e mostro alguns traços das teorias nativas que as sustentam. Ao fim, mostro a importância de submeter os novos dados genealógicos a um tratamento computacional que possa revelar propriedades da rede matrimonial que possam trazer novas luzes à análise destas relações incestuosas. Palavras-chave: Etnologia amazônica, parentesco ameríndio, incesto, análise computacional do parentesco INCEST AND MARRIAGE NETWORK AMONG THE ARARA: A PRELIMINARy APPROACh (KARIB, STATE Of PARá, BRAZIL) Abstract With a small and relatively isolated population, the Arara (Karib, Pará) have lived for decades a reality of effective endogamy, with a remarkable incidence of incestuous marriages. After a detailed description of some of these incestuous marriages found in genealogical data, I outline some aspects of the Arara matrimonial network related to such incest practices and show some elements of the native theories that support them. Finally, I show the importance of submitting the new genealogical data to a computational treatment that may reveal other properties of the matrimonial network that can bring new light into to the analysis of these incestuous relationships.
