Use the Firefly Algorithm To Images Compression Dr. Ramadan Mahmood Ramo Management Information systems Department Mosul University rmrramo@yahoo.com Abstract – Image processing and enhancement are important fields used frequently in many image processing branches. And the importance of the image and its use in many areas of life, especially through the process of transmission was to deal with the small size of the images to take a large space, while maintaining the accuracy required was used in this research using a new intelligence algorithm for the Compression of images. This algorithm is called the Firefly algorithm. The steps of Firefly algorithm were carried out in the compression process, taking into consideration the not loss of quality in the original image. The program adopted Matlab in writing the algorithm code and from observing the results, it was found that the algorithm was good in the process of compression and evaluated these results by using measurements such as (PSNR),(MSE) and compression rate(CR). I Introduction The importance of image compression has increased as a result of the rapid development of computer capacity. The sophistication that converges in multimedia and the emergence of www. Which has easy access to the Internet for everyone. All these things have made new algorithms need to be better and faster, especially in the image files. As storage and data transfer requires a large size and large package width. This may be very expensive. Image compression techniques include reducing the increase in data representation to reduce storage requirements and thus reduce the cost of communications[6]. The objective of image compression is to reduce the size of the image. Fig 1 demonstrates the general image storage system. Firefly Algorithm (FA) "was first developed by Xin-She Yang in late 2007 and 2008 at Cambridge University [32, 33], which was based on the flashing patterns and behavior of fireflies. In essence, FA uses the following three idealized rules "[9]: Fig 1 : General Image Storage System The "Xin-She Yang" proposed the Firefly algorithm, which was inspired by the behavior of fireflies. According to the principle of issuing a signal to attract other fireflies. "Xin Shi Yang" developed this firefly algorithm by assuming [8]: 1. It can attract any single firefly. All other fireflies. 2. The attraction mechanism depends on brightness ratio. The more brightness attracts the least brightness (and therefore moving towards). 3.
