Journal of Advances in Business Management; Vol.1, Issue 3, July-September 2015; Page: 113-124, DOI: 10.14260/jadbm/2015/15 ABSTRACT: Spirituality in the workplace is gaining recognition and value among researchers, academicians, and business professionals. The aim of this paper is to examine the impact of quality of work life in insurance industry with reference to LIC and MNYL companies. The impact of each determinant on quality of work life is studied. A cross-sectional survey was used to collect data from 200 payroll employees in public and private insurance companies in Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh (India). A correlation analysis showed a positive relationship between all the dimensions of Quality of Work Life. A variance analysis revealed that although all the dimensions of quality of work life in the workplace are important, working conditions, human relations, compensation & Benefits, stress management & work life balance, employee empowerment are the most important in terms of the job satisfaction level of employees. 1 This work will help insurance companies to better understand the concept of quality of work life in the workplace and its importance. Insurance companies can improve their functioning by encouraging employee quality of work life in the workplace. INTRODUCTION OF THE STUDY: Quality of work life is process of work organizations which enables its members at all levels to actively participate in shaping the organization environment, methods and outcomes. Conceptual categories which together make up the quality of working life are safe and healthy working conditions, adequate and fair compensation, immediate opportunity to use and develop human capacities, opportunity for continued growth and security, social integration in the work organization, and the social relevance of work life. 2 Quality of Work Life was the term actually introduced in the late 1960’s. From that period till now the term is gaining more and more importance everywhere, at every work place. Initially quality of work life was focusing on the effects of employment on the general wellbeing and the health of the workers. But now its focus has been changed. Every organization needs to give good environment to their workers including all financial and non-financial incentives so that they can retain their employees for the longer period and for the achievement of the organization goals. The concept of QWL is based on the assumption that a job is more than just a job. It is the center of a person’s life. In recent years there has been increasing concern for QWL due to several factors: Increase in education level and consequently job aspirations of employees; Association of workers; Significance of human resource management; widespread industrial unrest; Growing of knowledge in human behaviors, etc. 3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY: Insurance Industry was chosen as the study as it was felt that this would support a study for typicality.
