Growing population and increase in the consumption of fuel lead to think over some alternative that
can be used in place or along with the gasoline fuel. Alcohols (Ethanol, Methanol etc.) can be a good
alternative for this. Main objective of the study is to analyse the performance of bike by using ethanol-
gasoline blend and HHO generator at a same time. Experiment is performed on a single cylinder 4
stroke bike . Different Ethanol blends ( E0 to E20) are used for the experimentation. The result tell us
that by using ethanol blending, BTE increases and BSFC and exhaust emission decreases slightly.
Also E5 and E15 gives good results compared to pure gasoline.
Keywords :- Blended fuel, HHO generator, BTE, BSFC

1. INTRODUCTION
We all know our conventional fuel resources are decreasing continuously. Growing demand of
automobile is one of the important reason of decreasing fuel resources. therefore, it is very necessary
to have some alternative fuel that can be used in place of gasoline/ diesel fuel. LPG, CNG, Biodiesel
Alcohol fuel, Synthetic fuel etc. can be the alternative fuel. Alcohols (ethanol blend) because of its
high octane rating and high heat of evaporation, is best for spark ignition engine. Major advantage of
using ethanol blends in low proportion is that, there is no requirement of any modification of engine
for that. Also ethanol fuel is produce from the renewable energy source like agriculture feedstock.

A number of researcher do experimental study on the use of ethanol blends and their effect on the
performance of SI engine. Anand Modi and Amit agarwal [1]study the effect of different ethanol
blends on the performance of SI engine. Results tell us that BSFC decreases up-to E10 blending and
then increase, Similarly BTE increases up-to E10 blending and then decrease. Praveen maruthur and
Akhil Das[2] observed that when ethanol is mixed with camphor, then performance of bike increase
and slight reduction in the exhaust emission. Thermal efficiency increases and fuel consumption
decreases when camphor is used in gasoline. P. Raghuthama Rao [3] do an experimental study on
how ethanol blended fuel helps in the reduction of the exhaust emission in SI engine. The emission of

,HC decreases when ethanol blends are used. Best results are obtained when E15 blend is
used. M.A Kalam, B.M Masum made ex experimental study on the exhaust of the NOx emission by
using ethanol blends. Apart from the bike performance, ethanol helps in the reduction of the exhaust
