- 1 - Shadow-Reading Strategy for Developing Saudi English as a Foreign Language University Students' Reading Comprehension By Dr Manal Mohamed Khodary Mohamed Associate Professor of Curriculum and TEFL Instruction Ismailia Faculty of Education Suez Canal University Abstract This study was designed to examine the effect of using shadow- reading strategy on developing Saudi English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students' reading comprehension. It was a quasi-experimental study which was based on a one group design. The participants were 40 second level Languages and Translation Department at Arar faculty of education and arts, Northern Border University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. They were pre-tested before the treatment by using the Reading Comprehension Test (RCT). They were post-tested after the treatment by using the post-RCT. The researcher taught the participants during the treatment which was based on doing shadow- reading strategy to develop reading comprehension. Difference between the pre-RCT and the post-RCT was calculated by using the t- test. The result showed that a statistically significant difference was found between the pre-RCT and the post-RCT in favor of the post- RCT. The result revealed the effectiveness of using shadow-reading strategy in developing second level students' reading comprehension. Therefore, it can be concluded that shadow-reading strategy helped
