Nationalism or Nigerianism? Nigerianism is the feeling of love, devotion and dedication to Nigeria without sentiment. Nationalism is the feeling of oneness among people of the same historical background. Do the Hausas have the same historical background with the Igbos and Yorubas? Definitely No... We are only brought together by territorial definition. I tell you, some Bakassi indigenes who are officially called Cameroonians still feel themselves linked to a part of Nigeria. Now, tell me if they would have the spirit of Nationalism or Cameroonism. One could say if the Bakassi indigenes are provided with the various necessities of life by the Cameroonian government, they would give their allegiance to the Cameroonian government. It goes beyond that. The fact that they still feel linked to a part of Nigeria emphasizes Nationalism other than allegiance to the sovereign state of Cameroon. Nationalism is paranoid and tribalistic. That is why different secessionist groups keep rising every time. Learned readers, secessionism, is flowing in the minds of a few Nigerians. Our fathers promoted nationalism, they served, fought earnestly, selflessly and magnanimously with all they had for 46 years (1914-1960), Not minding if they would live to witness the better days ahead. They actualized the nation called NIGERIA... But, it's so pathetic that we still do not exist as a nation - state... The present day nationalists are self - centered and ethnocentric. They say yes today, and say no tomorrow. How long shall we tarry to make things right? Our fathers have actualized the nation they wanted. But, is this the nation they dreamt of? Making Nigeria stand and formidable is our duty. So, let's imbibe Nigerianism other than Nationalism to make Nigeria work................. Nigerianism Entails: - The belief in the oneness of Nigeria
