RevLet – Revista Virtual de Letras, v. 11, nº 01, jan/jul, 2019 ISSN: 2176-9125 126 A VARIAÇÃO E A MUDANÇA LINGUÍSTICAS PELA SOCIOLINGUÍSTICA: PRESSUPOSTOS PARA O ESTUDO DA LÍNGUA EM USO THE LINGUISTIC VARIATION AND CHANGE BY SOCIOLINGUISTICS: ASSUMPTIONS FOR THE STUDY OF LANGUAGE IN USE Leandro Silveira de Araujo Doutor em Linguística e Língua Portuguesa Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (araujols@ufu.br) RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho é discutir como a variação e a mudança linguísticas são definidas dentro do marco teórico da Sociolinguística Variacionista. Para tanto, iniciamos com uma breve discussão sobre como a Linguística moderna vem tratando a língua em seu efetivo funcionamento. Desse modo, observamos posturas investigativas que optam por uma abstração teórico-metodológica que dispensa a observação do entorno enunciativo no tratamento da linguagem, ao passo que outras vertentes não concebem o estudo da linguagem desassociado de seu contexto sócio-histórico-discursivo. Inserida nesse último grupo, a Sociolinguística Variacionista assenta-se sobre três fatos da linguagem, profundamente interrelacionáveis: a noção de (i) heterogeneidade ordenada e as percepções de que as (ii) línguas mudam constantemente e de que (iii) a linguagem carrega consigo mais do que simplesmente o significado de suas palavras. Após a discussão mais atenta de cada um desses pilares, podemos conferir que a linguagem está em constante construção, resultante das relações e negociações sociais. Em outros termos, conferimos que a Sociolinguística Variacionista não apenas se ocupa da descrição dos fenômenos de Variação e Mudança, mas também nutre o desenvolvimento teórico da Linguística moderna, posto que lhe concede importante informação sobre as línguas naturais, o homem e suas relações em sociedade. ABSTRACT: This paper aims at discussing how linguistic variation and change are defined within the theoretical framework of Variationist Sociolinguistics. For this purpose, we begin with a brief discussion on how modern Linguistics has been treating the language in its effective functioning. Thus, we observe questioning stances that choose a theoretical-methodological abstraction that exempts the observation of enunciative context in the processing of language, while other perspectives do not conceive the study of language disassociated from its socio- historical-discursive context. Inserted in this last group, the Variationist Sociolinguistics is based on three deeply interrelated facts of language: the notion of (i) orderly heterogeneity and the perceptions that (ii) languages change constantly and that (iii) language carries with it more than simply the meaning of its words. After a closer discussion of each of these pillars, we can see that language is constantly being constructed, which results from social relations and negotiations. In other words, we find that the Variationist Sociolinguistics not only deals with the description of the Variation and Change phenomena but also supplies the theoretical development of modern Linguistics, because it provides language investigators with important information about natural languages, man and their relations in society.
