Agricultural College, Tirupati - 517 502, District Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, India e-mail: gangisetty.88@gmail.com Received: 18 July 2015; Revised accepted: 08 November 2015 A B S T R A C T The present study was taken up to find out the constraints and suggestions perceived by the post graduate students with regard to the college, in Post Graduate Institute, Rahuri and College of Agriculture, Pune during the year 2011-12. The sample of 120 is obtained by following proportionate stratified random sampling. Ex-post-facto research design was followed for the study. The study revealed that the post graduate students faced some constraints with regard to the college. Regarding constraints expressed by post graduate students, Inadequate Information from non teaching staff (44.17%), untimely provision of scholarship (27.50%), inaccessibility to different books, newspapers, journals, periodicals (26.67%), inadequate provision of recruitment through campus selections (28.33%) were the major ones. Suggestions expressed by the respondents were, online announcement of college notices and results (100%), more emphasis to be given on practical training (91.67%), introduction of e- learning must be encouraged (66.67%), orientation for various competitive examinations (66.67%) and scientific exhibitions must be organized annually (66.67%). These were some of the constraints and suggestions mentioned by the post graduate students regarding to their college. The University of Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri has started functioning from October 1969 at Rahuri with the main objective to impart agricultural education to the Post Graduate and Doctor of Philosophy students. The basic mandate assigned to this university is advancement in teaching, research, and imparting extension education to the farmers of the state to provide a scientific background to agriculture. The Post Graduate Institute, Rahuri imparts education to students leading to M. Sc. (Agriculture), M.Sc. (Horticulture) and Doctor of Philosophy degree whereas The College of Agriculture, Pune provides education for B. Sc. (Agriculture), B. Sc. (Horticulture) and M. Sc. (Agriculture), M.B.M (Agriculture). The post graduate students in the both colleges form a sizeable strength in the university. The participation of post graduate students has been constantly increasing since 2001which reflects the raising interest of students on research in different disciplines of agriculture. The students in the college had faced some constraints in some situations and these constraints hinder the all round development of the students and also objects in achieving their aspirations. So the students had given some suggestions to overcome the constraints faced by them with regard to college. The study would provide better insight into the suggestions of the post graduate students which would help in improvement of educational programme and strategies for guidance not only to them but also students willing to seek admission in the agricultural colleges. MATERIALS AND METHODS The present study was conducted in College of Agriculture, Pune and Post Graduate Institute, Rahuri which are under Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth of Maharashtra state, during the academic year 2011-12. Ex-post facto research design was followed for the study. The sample constituted 93 post graduate students of Post Graduate Institute, Rahuri and 27 post graduate students of College of Agriculture, Pune with a total of 120 students. Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling was followed to select the students from different departments of the above mentioned colleges.
